Doug DuChateau, Director of Instruction

Doug’s involvement in golf spans three decades. Developing as a young competitive player in the Eugene area, Doug became a standout for the University of Oregon, twice being named to the all PAC 10 team alongside contemporaries such as Phil Mickelson, Jim Furyk and Casey Martin.

His love for the game and desire to bring it to as many people as possible has lead him to the instructional profession.

As a professional he has completed PGA training as well as becoming a Master level Golfing Machine instructor, a system used by dozens of top 100 instructors.

Since arriving as director of instruction in April of 2007, the success Doug has had with his students has continued to be outstanding. With competitive players, he has worked with District and State champions, Regional champions, as well as prominent professionals and college players. Several of his young competitive students have gone on to earn college scholarships as well. Doug’s greatest joy lies in working with avid and beginning golfers, helping those who desire to improve for their own enjoyment and personal satisfaction.

As part of the Precision Golf School Philosphy, golf is not presented as just 'simple and fun'. In Doug's view, that is an unfair notion that simply does not give the game it's due credit. Which is why his approach in the Precision Golf School system is to clearly identify and explain those areas that must be refined in order to positively affect performance. Adhering to the belief that knowledge is power, he brings to bear all his expertise and instructional techniques to expand each and every student’s knowledge base.

As he often says: nothing in golf is more fun than IMPROVING!

What is The Golfing Machine?

First and foremost, the Golfing Machine is not a product, but a body of work compiled, written and revised over the course of 43 years by its' author Homer Kelley. While Homer Kelley is by no means a household name for the majority of us, in a recent survey of the top 100 golf instructors in the US done by Sports Illustrated, Homer Kelley's book The Golfing Machine was voted the 5th most influential golf instruction book ever written. The text inside the book is not for the faint of heart, for it is a comprehensive overview of all of the principles of geometry and physics as they apply to golf. The author then identifies each and every reasonable movement pattern possible to adhere to and harness these principles.

Translating and presenting those movement patterns through a catalog of options - not a fixed viewof "one way" to swing - is the instructor's job - similar to how a doctor translates his medical analysis into layman's terms and an individualized plan to improve health. What this progressive approach identifies is the fact that there are billions (yes BILLIONS) of ways to arrange your golf swing to be truly effective and efficient. This instructional flexibility is how we can truly take a "STUDENT-CENTERED APPROACH" at Precision Golf School and why we say it is "YOUR GAME, YOUR WAY".

The Golfing Machine Authorization program has positioned itself as the MIT of golf. It is unquestionably the most intense and rigorous certification program in the golf instruction industry. The Golfing Machine Authorization includes comprehensive study of both the scientific theory and the application of the instructional system. Authorized instructors are required to complete extensive pre-work and study, and then endure two levels of intense testing and education before being conferred their bachelor's degree. Precision Golf School Director of Instruction Doug DuChateau completed his Bachelor's Degree in 1998, and his Master's Degree on 2000, Our own Jason Payne completed his bachelor's degree in June 2008 and thereby joined our elite group. Precision Golf School is one of a very select few golf schools in the United States that has multiple Golfing Machine Authorized Instructors on staff, and the only school on the west coast with such a faculty.

A very interesting fact about the global network of Authorized Golfing Machine Instructors is the degree of success and recognition that the group has achieved. Although there are only about 200 officially Authorized Golfing Machine instructors worldwide, the number of awards and recognition received is absolutely unprecedented in the field of golf instruction. Over 20% of Golf Digest and Golf Magazine's top instructor lists are Golfing Machine instructors either past or present, and include names such as Martin Hall, 2008 PGA National Teacher of the Year, Chuck Cook, 1995 PGA National Teacher of the Year, Tom Ness, Ben Doyle, Mike Perpich, Gale Peterson, Pia Nilsson, Mac O'Grady, Mike Hebron and many others. In addition to the top instructor lists, the number of PGA International, Sectional and Chapter awards for teacher of the year given to members of our group is truly astounding. Precision Golf School's commitment to our students is that we continue to invest our efforts in the highest level of expertise to help you improve.
